I’ve joined another swap on craftster. My latest favorite swap “series”, the quilt block swap.
In short, this style of swap will let you sign up for maybe 1 to 3 groups. Each group consists of five people, including yourself. Each person chooses a quilt block pattern (or “quilter’s choice”) and a set of colors, and every one in that group will then make three blocks of that type for that person – ending up making 3×4 blocks, and receiving 12 (per group).
These are the blocks I made for this round
For brandyk, I made a simple 9-patch blocks
For homerof2, I made maple leaves
For quaggy, I made sail boats
And sloth, well… Sloth gave you an option. Paper piecing, or a simple quilt block. I hate paper piecing, and it hates me, but I’m not one to shy away from a challenge if I have a backup plan!
So I tried the icky thump
…and for a while, I thought we were getting along. I felt like I’d figured it out, even though I miscut one of the fabrics so it ended up having an extra seam where I patched it up. But then… it just turned out too small. I thought I’d measured the 1” comparison square, but it turns out I was too messy. It was just a fraction too small. Which ended up being quite visibly too small in the finished block, when compared to the ruler!
So, backup plan it is. Her other requested blocks, the garden fence
In citrusy colors. She mentioned later, after everyone kept posting color coordinated blocks, that she’d really ment for them to be mixed up. I thought of doing that, but dismissed my own idea, and I regret that a bit, because that mottled one on the right would have looked cooler with the orange center, and the orange edges would have been great with a green center. But I’d already sent by the time she clarified, so I hope she does something great with them anyway.
(Oh, and btw, the strips have a light gray color, it’s not white, and your screen isn’t broken)
