inThrowback to that daria swap on craftster.org where I made a Sick Sad World pencil holder that turned out fucking awesome (Oct 2009)
I painted the logo, blackened the top edge, and attached scrapbook paper using decoupage glue on the other three sides. The pencil holder was a 10SEK clearance item from IKEA’s leftovers section, that I grabbed three of in case they’d be useful for crafts.
Just for reference, the other items I sent were a decorated notebook, “you just need the one boob” purse, and daria colored yarn.

So the quilt block swap (9) on craftster that finished this spring has finally been dealt with! The blocks, that is. I was hoping to do two single group swaps for the same pattern to get a bigger quilt, but life sort of got in the way.
To summarize, I sent the pattern to my craftster swap partners and got three squares back from four different people. These were then selected among to put together into this quilt, which I then bordered, bought backing for, and sent off to Bussler Bussler for quilting.
On Bussler’s recommendation, I also did this double binding thing, which worked out beatifully, even if it’s extra much work – it’s so worth it! But don’t do like me and just decide “this must be right” when you’re far too tired – I botched the finishing join, but you can’t see it on the finished product.
Finished size is 220x130cm.

“Quilb” block swap, as it’s wonderfully misspelled on the forums. Sent blocks. In order, sent to aimr, carol, quaggy and sloth.

inI’ve covered a piece of tretex (or whatever it’s called) with some fabric and nailed it to the wall, to finally get my hoopla wall set up. The material is very pin-friendly, so I’m able to move things around more than I would have been had I mounted them straight onto the wall! The fabric is a color I’d normally really dislike, but in real life it’s quite discreet against the wallpaper, so I approve of it in context, as usual!
The top right piece is a small woven piece my mom made, either before I was born or soon after. It’s based on a desert landscape, but she designed it and wove it herself. I remember it hanging in the house when I was little, but I haven’t seen it in a while, and it would be a pity to keep it in a box!
The kettle hoop is by my mom as well – it’s really a mini potholder (for kettles I guess!) but I mounted it in a hoop that it barely fit into and hung it instead. It’s both a “tea” theme and feels not too far disconnected from the steampunk with its brass sheen.
I’m quite pleased with it! And there’s more to come! I’ve got another inherited cross stitch to frame that I’m quite fond of (from one of my father’s aunts I believe), and I’ve just joined r6 of the hoopla swap!
To be continued…
